About Us

Keller-Lamar Health Foundation

Dr. Jeffrey Keller moved to Baton Rouge Louisiana in 2008 to work at the LSU Pennington Biomedical Research Center.  Upon arriving in Baton Rouge, he worked to quickly establish a new aging and Alzheimer's disease research site.  Charles Lamar was an early supporter of Dr. Keller's work at Pennington Biomedical and one of the first subjects in Dr. Keller's longitudinal aging study there. The Pennington Biomedical Institute on Dementia Research and Prevention (IDRP) was established by Jeffrey Keller, PhD, with the support of the LSU Board of Regents. In 2014 the IDRP was recognized by the National Institutes of Health’s National Institute on Aging as the only Alzheimer’s Disease Cooperative Study Site (ADCS) in a tristate area. To date approximately 4,000 participants have joined in the longitudinal study. In 2017, the two collaborated on a new effort by forming the Keller-Lamar Health Foundation (KLHF). The initial goal of KLHF is to develop web-based tools for recruiting and monitoring participants in diverse aging studies in a wide array of settings ranging from universities to independent health-related organizations. This new nationwide network, the Jo Lamar Education and Research Network (JLEARN), is now beginning to take shape.
